The Church always encourages the reading and study of the Scriptures. The Fathers at the Second Vatican Council recommended that all the Christian faithful “should gladly put themselves in touch with the sacred text itself, whether it be through liturgy, rich in the divine Word, or through devotional reading, or through instructions suitable for the purpose and other aids which, in our time, are commendably available, thanks to the approval and active support of the shepherds of the Church” (Dei Verbum #24).

For many Catholics, getting in touch with the text itself is a new and exhilarating experience. The goal of Scripture Study is to read sacred scripture in order to learn from it and to live it.

A group of lay people come together weekly, on Tuesdays from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Sessions begin in September and end sometime in May. No summer sessions. One book from the Old Testament and one book from the New Testament is studied during this time. A study guide is used but all persons participate in the group.

Scripture Study is also offered in the evenings at various times during the year.
