The Feeding Homeless Men Ministry prepares a meal every third Wednesday of the month for the New Creation Men’s Center. Volunteers are needed to help provide dinner for the men. If you can make a sandwich, shop for groceries, enjoy cooking or can give 2 hours of time a month St. Elizabeth Ann Seton has been helping to feed the homeless men in Valparaiso since 2009.

Our church has partnered with the Valparaiso Mennonite Church at Silhavy and Evans to feed the men a nourishing dinner twice a month. The dinner is served at the Mennonite Church the first and third Sunday of the month by volunteers from our church. People either provide the entire meal or any portion of the dinner for a particular date. Funds have been contributed by parishioners for this project so that volunteers can be reimbursed for their expenses if they so desire.

The coordinator calls the volunteers well in advance and arranges the particulars of the meal to be served. The Mennonite Church has a complete kitchen so the meals are generally brought to the church no later than 6:30 pm. Dishes, serving utensils and drinks are provided by the church. The Mennonite Church also has a dishwasher to assist with clean up.

The generosity of our volunteers has been extraordinary and the men truly appreciate the delicious home cooked meals. A volunteer might be called to assist once every six months or so. Generally, volunteers have the very rewarding experience of serving the food to the men. The average number of men being served ranges from 12 to 15 and usually takes approximately two hours.
