The Church shows special concern for her children who have yet to
be fully initiated through the Sacraments of Confirmation and
Eucharist:
- To open the Word of God with children
- To situate the ritual life of children within the context
- To speak of God in a language appreciated by the child
In order that the Liturgy of the Word is understood by the children, at the conclusion of the Opening Prayer, before the start of the Liturgy of the Word, the Priest (or deacon) calls the children and their leader to come forth. They go to hear the Word in a manner that is appropriate and intelligible for their ages. They return to the Liturgy of the Eucharist during the Presentation of the Gifts.
All children who are 3 years of age and older are invited to attend. They must want to be in attendance and able to be attentive for approximately 15 minutes. Moms may accompany their child if necessary. A colorful worksheet is used. They sing and play musical instruments. Time is offered for questions and answers of the lesson.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is most happy to invite any adult who is interested in instructing our children. There is a study guide which is used.
